Playing With the Big Boys

You would think with 5 and 4 year old boys running around the house I would know how to play with a boy.  But every time I turn around I am completely perplexed by the ways that my two little boys want to play.
I remember the first time I realized that growing up with a sister and 13 female cousins I had a lot to learn about little boys.
My boys had gotten some dinosaurs for a birthday.  There were big dinosaurs and little ones.  So being the girly girl I am I decided that we had Momma dinosaurs and baby dinosaurs.  My boys were having NOTHING to do with it.  The response I got..."No Momma they go like this, ROAR!!!" as he proceeded to have the big dino, eat the little one.  I wasn't sure what to think.  So I sat back and watched as my boys proceeded to have dino massacre.
I must say that I have gotten better about the rough play that my little boys have decided so justly fits them.  My current struggle is with my 4 year olds obsession with firearms.  EVERYTHING in the house becomes a gun!  I tried for a long time to keep guns out of the house, then one day a nerf gun came home and everything changed.  I can't even take the blocks out of the closet anymore because all he wants to do is make it a gun. I can't take it any more.  Every time I turn around "pew pew".  Its driving me nuts.  Oh how I wish for the days when blocks were blocks and we built the tallest towers and then knocked them over!

  1. I have a little boy, so I have all this to look forward to :) I can already see the differences in him playing vs his friends that are girls. It's so cool how their little minds work.

    P.S.
